Minor Surgery

The doctors undertake minor surgical procedures, such as joint injections, removal of lumps and bumps at the surgery. These need to be arranged with the GPs, who will only perform procedures they feel are suitable. More complicated problems will be referred to Specialists for treatment.

Mammograms

These breast checks are carried out every 3 years and re-call appointments are generated automatically.

Family Planning and Contraceptive Services

We provide a full contraceptive service in normal surgery hours. For women wishing to have an IUCD (coil) fitted, it is necessary to have an initial appointment with Dr Turnbull who specialises in the fitting of coils.

Emergency contraception is available from the nurses as well as the doctors, and it is important to be seen within 72 hours of any potential contraceptive failure or omission. This service is also available from the Victoria Health Centre and Family Planning Clinic in town, from the Walk In Centre on London Road or from your local pharmacy (although there may be a charge).

Ante-Natal Care

Ante-Natal care is now led by our team of Midwives, who work in close co-operation with the GPs. We advise women to try to see one of the midwives at around 8-10 weeks of pregnancy, for initial advice. We advise all women who are trying to conceive, and until they are 12 weeks pregnant, to take Folic Acid 400 micrograms daily, available from any Pharmacy.

During pregnancy, most care is provided at the surgery. Women can be booked to have their baby in either the Queens Medical Centre or Nottingham City Hospital.
